after travelling, a mal-
aise settles on arrival. all those logistics past. no line of flight presents. things sit ahead in a blurred mass. behind
is a blur. those masses draw energy out. a narrative compulsion catches you in the form of some project you could undertake if you were able. if. to write. to find a way of life. is to cut– those pre-occupations. fall away. fall in. in the way it is necessary to withdrawn attention from celebrities and authorities, also withdraw from images of pasts and futures. past and future plans. proje[c]ts. images of coherence. of endurance. fall. be near ground. allow time to curdle. nothing smooth is left. the kind of rough surface that sets your teeth on edge, passing tiredly. some houses, like the one M talks about, keep you off balance – their surfaces and sightlines are unstable. nothing settles. there are no sheets, arms, furnitures to hold the body. to warm it. to reflect a coherent image. fall apart[.] as you fall, a kind of nost-algia can trouble you. a
sense of order that was lost. in the way an infant undoes time, be undone. be prepared, Amy Sharrocks said, to be changed.
you ate artichokes by the river Matarranya. it was warm in the sun. obstacles beset you. you could not get the tools you need. you get some. some not. un certainty marks these times. you are lost, you think. as in the a dark wood. mushrooms appear by track, you rem[em]ber, which you either missed before or you are on a different track. when you were lost in peckham wood in september or october, you were able to get back to where you started. turning ar-ound you saw p. you were calling, p was calling. you both gave up. p was not lost. p is
never lost in peckham wood. you are commonly lost. following from here to here looking for mushrooms, you are quickly disorientated. your sense of direction and scale[.] you think of your father. of Jacques Roubaud. memory collapses. the architecture of memory collapses. those moments give a sense of how that will be. how it is, you think. you're lying on your back. out of ideas. in the next room you heear p. poking the fire. cracking nuts. you re thinking of pierre. when he first came to the house. the way he listened to what was going on in the space adjoining. where he couldn t see. howyou closed him in max's room and he appeared on the top of the cupboard. how thin and small he was then. they told you he had never been outside. he had fur under his feet, they said. at CHAT. how timid he was. to go out. waiting for somebody to be with him. leaving pierre in lond-on, you thought what you
are doing is wrong. the way you feel is a sign it is wrong. reproducing hist-ories of leaving. ruthless cuts. neither nor did you want to stay in london any more. where you were tired out. here also you are tired out but. life, if anything, grabs more tightly to you, dragging and weighing. you went to the growers market in bayonne. the river was wider and faster than any you would remember – full of curls and glossy patches. an inconceivable mass of water passing. that restaurant you went to – Atlas – to eat couscous and tagine, and a bean soup with cumin. the waiter was like a father, taking care of you. the way S cared for you. cares. how he worried at times you would collapse. now he care[s] for M in the same way. how you bring suffering wherever you go. a[s] p is saying. how you can see Marion working to hold that away. a thing
too hard to bear. when no remediation is possible. no time and strength rem-ains. amy sharrock coming into iklectic with that wolf hound of hers! fiercely hopeful – p is hopeful, she says. she enacts hopefulness, she says. she confronts your despair with that enactment. your d dispirit she can't under-stand, she says. understanding flee[s]. it's dark outside. the orange street light is on. if p could leave. but where. after 10 months inside you, the Habeme told Lina, all F wants is to get back inside. think of that exhibit in the science mus-eum which compare[] the migrant to a potted plant. how tears broke out in your eyes. how you hadn't though[t] of that. how your tears betrayed you. losing desire or ability to return, be lost. weep. blush. fluids rise in the body, showing its fluid composition. sweat.
shed drops. falling is optimistic, your father said. people fall,
old people especially, on uneven ground. p fell and cut her mouth. that was a long time ago, while gard-ening. [Jacques Roubaud fainted and fell fainting during his military service in Algeria. he invented the secret hunger strike, he said.] p's parents fall. your parents fall. they get back up. you imagine they lie there. the someti one time your father could not get up. he lay on the kitchen floor. your mother brought a bed roll beside him. they lay on the tiles together. in the morning a neighbour helped your father up. since he stopped that medication he falls less. fall like tears
you hear the heating system running. the nights are cold. you re laying in thick clothes. with a hat. the saying: to be laid low. to be down. you are not on the ground. you are one storey up. the xx a whole machinery flout you, architectures support b bodies that lie prone. they approximate to
down. when the sun is moving to the far side of
the earth the night is cold. arnes is some hundreds of metre[] above sea level. neither lowland nor montane, the population of arnes occupy an in between area
water rushes through the soil and olive trees root and extend upward. the depth of life can appear thi thin. Amelia showed you a house with an under-croft. in the undercroft was a car belonging to her u a relative. and a horse wagon belonging to her father. if time is established by marks, at other times it melts. you passed through an area of snow and trees coated in ice around Le Mans. the cold bit into you. a week ago it was 29°, they said in Bayonne. the waiter at Atlas restaurant gave you
red wine without alcohol to drink. it was like being at home. the soup was bubbling in an earthenware dish. olives. all surplus unnecessary acts and object[s]. how a long hard travelling in the cold lets you know how hospitality works. what culture is. how it is done – moved between people. how exchanges bind, working against the grain. of the differences you have most in common (Fred Dewey: School of Public Life). how those are actualised. turned to use. how a surplus is caused to exist among people which can serve as a binder. an approximation (Ella Finer). the cook came out of the kitchen and put on the news. you stood up and put on your coats. you paid and said thank you. you
went out. nobody there was from there in that little rest-
aurant room somebody brought

one side of the shot tower run by the LWT, drawings showed birds and amphibians, including the Edible frog, a hybrid of the Marsh and Pond frogs. it had a yellow line the length of its back. this pen is running out also, writing upside down. on the other side of the shot tower were names of people who died in the gunpower industry, making ammunition. it was described how
one man handed a hot drink burst into flames. at some point in Feltham, near the Texaco station, you started to smell the higher notes of jet fuel. a map in Crude Britannia by James Marriott shows the dedicated pipeline running from tanker ports on the coast to Heathrow. after a while you and Sam had headaches, maybe from inhaling the exhaust gases from the planes and service roads or from the sounds of combustion engines. you invited ppl to in / open house. a small group came. simon had prepared a talk advocating for the work of domestics against aesthetics. liz cleary. becky with May and Iris and 2 smaller children. something which
exceeds us
we become political, we become artists in response to pre[c]ise situation[].. which are carried along in our bodies

to create the conditions for us to become political, become artists
(which) requires a deeply relational

time becomes multiple and embodied and co-produced. which takes some laying out.
